Quotes from Sidhaartha

1. " Far is such a thought from my mind, I wish that I shall all stay with teachings, that they shall reach their goal!"

He saying that try not to think or worry about the past or future, but your mind into the present. He also means to focus on your problems and concerns that are happening now. By doing that you will reach your goals.

I can put this teaching into my life by not worrying or thinking about the future but worry about what is happening now and figure out how to solve that problem I'm worried about in that time period.

2. " I want to learn from myself , want to be my student, want to get to know myself, the secret of Siddlhartha."

He is saying that he wants to know more about himself from himself instead of a teacher saying what he is. He wants to know why he acts certain ways, why does he do certain things, and what is he as a person.

I can put this teaching into my life by questioning my negative actions, think for moments why I do certain things, and try to figure out through my daily actions what kind of person I am.

3. " Siddhartha felt his blood heating up, and since in this in this movement he had to think of his dream again, he blend slightly down the woman and kissed with his lips the brown nipple of her breast. Looking up, he saw her face smiling full of lust and her eyes, with contracted pupils, begging with desire. Siddhartha also felt desire and felt the source of his sexuality moving; but since he had never touched a woman before, he hesitated for a moment, while his hands were prepared to reach out for her, And in this moment he heard, shuddering with awe, the voice if his innermost self, and this voice said No. Then, all charms disappeared from the young woman's smiling face, he longer saw anything else but the damp glance of a female animal in the heat."

The lesson in this paragraph from Siddhartha is to resist temptation or lust over negative feelings or thoughts such as violence, greed, things you need for your own pleasure, and in this case, sex. Also you can say this paragraph has another lesson as well. The lesson being think before your actions, think of the consequences as well as the benefits and decide which are more important. For example, the benefits of smoking are a brief sense of pleasure while the consequences are life lasting heath problems. Which would you rather have?

Some ways, I could put the lesson of this paragraph into my life is think before my actions. When encountered a situation where you must decide over two or more things, think of the benefits and consequences of each thing and see which will be the best choice due to have better benefits and less consequences by using your conscience as well as common sense. Another thing is try to avoid temptation of things you don't really need.

4. " You aren't satisfied with Siddhartha as he is, with oil in his hair, but without clothes, without shoes, without money?"

The point Siddhartha is trying to make I think is that no matter how much you please someone, some people will never be satisfied with you due to their nature such as them being stubborn, you aren't like them, or not liking you who you are. The best you can is try to please them the best you can but in the end failing or leave them to find people who actually appreciate you.
A way I can bring this advice in my life is by being myself when I'm around people instead of pretending to be someone else. When the people who pretended to be find out that you are really not like them, they will leave. Another thing I can do to follow this advice is to find and hang out with frinds who actually like me for who I am.

5. " Remember my dear, Not eternal is the world of appearances, not eternal, anything but eternal are our garments and the style of your hair, and our hair and bodies themselves."

Siddhartha is saying that things in this world that you adore or consider important to you in this life such as clothes, movies, T.V, video games, and books won't matter in the after life. Those things won't be with you forever nor will you consider them important to you all throughout your life. Another thing that he is saying is that there are more important things in life then the kids of clothes you wear, what's popular, or what you should look like.

Some ways that I could follow this teaching is to try not to put things that are not really important or will have a huge effect on my life in the backseat of things that are actually important such family, school, health, and even yourself.

6. " The enchantment, which had happened inside of him in his sleep and by means of the Om, was this very thing that he loved everything, that he was full of joyful love for everything he saw. And it was this very thing, so it seemed to him now, which had been his sickness before, that he was not able to love anybody or anything."

In this part of Siddhartha, Siddhartha is saying he has finally learned from his mistakes from past lives. This passage can also be looked at in a different view, that love is the key to all happiness not material things like clothes, video games, movies, and other sources of personal pleasure. When he doesn't mean love in a sexual way but love by showing compassion, peace and kindness towards others. This kind of love is the heart of many religions and philosophies.

I can put this in my life my simply showing love, compassion, respect, and caring to all living things. Though it may sound simple, it isn't. I might even break it several times by accident. However, I must try because it won't just benfit me, it will also benfit others as well.
